In the Night Pasture
Written by Sherry Rich and Ashley Naylor
(inspiration taken from a poem by Richard Watson Gilder)
On a starry night in June
Before the moon came into our valley
I wandered up a mountain lane
Beside a silver brook was sliding
From stone to stone
Near and far in the dusk
I hear cowbells chiming
And looking down at the old house
I see smoke rising
Above the pines
In the night pasture
In the night pasture
In the night pasture
I’ll wait
In a dream I hear your voice
Calling my name
Like a storm bird
In the dark before the day
Before the day
In the night pasture
In the night pasture
In the night pasture
In the night
I’ll wait
I’ll wait for you
Mama (Why You Hurt Me So)
Written by Sherry Rich/Ashley Naylor
Mama why you hurt me so
Mama why you hurt me so
Mama why you hurt me so
I was born sweet and good
Alone in the wood
Oh Mama depending on you
You hate it when I cry
How could I know why
And through the tears I still love you
(like a child)
Chorus
Oh too young to fight
Or see the wrong and right
All I know is I need you
Tell me why I can’t be good
Be the way you think I should
Oh Mama I don’t understand
Chorus
I’m just an innocent girl
Alone in the world
Oh Mama depending on you
You hate it when I cry
How could I know why
And through the years I still love you
(like a child)
Chorus to end
Step Inside
Written by Sherry Rich and Ashley Naylor
If only you knew
How many times I’ve watched you sleep
How many photographs I keep
If only you knew about my love
If only you’d feel
The kisses that I blow your way
Wishing I could hear you say
If only you knew about my love
In a dream it’s you that I see
One day soon now you’ll come to me
Close the door open your eyes
You are home now
Step Inside
If only you knew
How many times I cross your street
How many times I hope we’ll meet
If only you knew about my love
In a dream it’s you that I see
One day soon now you’ll come to me
Close the door open your eyes
You are home now
Step Inside
Step Inside
Step Inside love
